JOANNE JANICKI
ED Courses
This area includes the core courses, ED 800 and ED 870. They are the introduction and synthesis of my learning in the MAED program. The first class gave me a solid basis in theory and the capstone class allows time for reflection and assessing progress toward my goals. These courses were the only two required and now if given the choice, I would take them again.
ED 800
Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Fall 2009
Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland
This was a fabulous introductory course and it offered many opportunities to explore education and educational theory through several texts and videos. My favorite book from this class is Peripheral Visions by Mary Catherine Bateson. I also enjoyed Vivian Paley's book, The Girl with the Brown Crayon. This course also introduced me to greats such as Gardener, Cusick, E.D.Hirsch and the movie Whale Rider. Each unit required a short synopsis and response to the assignment which helped me with writing skills and portraying my point without a lot of extra words. The sample seen here is the final.

ED 870
Capstone Seminar
Spring 2013
Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler
Confucius is quoted as saying
What I hear, I forget
What I see, I remember
What I teach, I understand. To that I add
When I feel, I am engaged.
All throughout my MAED, I heard, saw and taught. It is now through the reflection of my work, that I feel the power of new knowledge that engages and inspires my teaching.
